Los Alamos Music Teachers Association News:

On Saturday on February 8, 2025, young pianists from Santa Fe and Los Alamos competed in the Sonata 2025 competition, an annual event, a joint host of the Santa Fe (SFMTA) Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers Association (Los Alamos ( Lamta).

The two respected judges for this year’s competition were Terry Rek of Albukerke and Dr. Jacqueline Helin of Santa Fe.

The winners first at each level will be the guest performers of the first Lamta Musica Recital from 2025, will show their winning performances on 2:00 pm Sunday, February 23 at Fuller Lodge. “The performance is free for presence and we hope you can come and listen to our upcoming young artists!” -Lamta

The Sonata competition is open to all piano students before college, who study with SFMTA and LAMTA members, and pianists who study with non -member can compete for an additional fee.

Lamta and SFMTA are the local heads of professional New Mexico music teachers (PMTNM), which is the head of the National Music Teachers Association (MTNA).

  • Level 6: Cynthia Fu (Teacher: Wendy Ge);
  • Level 7: Gavin Hu (teacher: Dr. Patricia Wood);
  • Level 8: Alice Chen (teacher: Dr. Patricia Wood); and
  • Level 9: Anna Beckhouse (teacher: Jana Warren).
