Alliance – Mount Union’s men’s basketball team lives on the edge at times this season.

Replacing Nemesis pushed the purple Raiders overboard in a little stunning on Saturday.

Wilmington defeated the leaders of the Athletic Conference in Ohio 79-77 in a game that felt like trouble throughout the afternoon. If there is a match where you throw away the records, that’s all.

Quakers (5-15, 3-9) finished eighth in OAC a year ago and were last on Saturday. However, they have won three of their last four against Mount Union.

Purple Raiders needed a basket for the last second from Christian Parker in December to take his only victory over Wilmington after the 2022-23 season.

“I want to play so for everyone else,” said Mount Union’s chief coach Mike Fulin. “They are a talented team. They have the elderly who are talented boys.

“To be honest with you, I’m a little surprised that they haven’t won any more.”

The loss stopped the winning series of five Mount Union games (13-6, 10-2). Purple Raiders still have the lead of a game over second John Carroll, aimed at home spending on Wednesday with the blue stripes.

There were some close calls for Purple Raiders during their victory. Last week, they needed another late Parker basket to beat Capital, the Ninth OAC team.

“You can’t look at records,” Fulin said. “Anyone can beat everyone. It’s just that type of year.”

Purple attackers had some prints of self -subjected prints all over this. Their struggles along the foul line returned to pursue them when it mattered. Mount Union missed four straight throws in the last 38 seconds and finished 15 in 28 of the line.

The last two missed Mount Union’s free throws have opened the door for a winning 3-Indication of Domenic Farley of Wilmington with seven seconds remaining.

“It lawfully cost us like three or four games this year,” Fulin told Mount Union’s free throw struggles. “… We just have to do them, man when the time comes. That’s why they are called” free “, right?”

Kevin Moore hit five 3s and scored the highest 23 career points to lead Purple Raiders. The 6-foot striker had given up a career, binding the top 20 points in Wednesday’s victory in Marietta.

Moore was 5-from-7 of the 3-point scope and 6-from-6 of the line in 23 minutes. He also grabbed seven fights.

“He is a super talented man and a great young man,” Fulin said. “He never says a word on the floor. He just plays his ass and can really shoot him. He is also our best defender.”

Parker finished with 19 points, and the freshman Casenhiser added 18 for Purple Raiders, who retained his only possession in the first place when John Carol lost in Marietta.

When John Carol waits in a few days, Purple Raiders can’t handle their lost opportunity against Wilmington.

“They have put in a position to be still in the first place,” Fulin said. “Now you have to go out and try to win the next one. And when this one is done, try to win the next one.”
