Scottsdale, Ariz. (AP) – a rough start to the season made Windham Clark dig through past notes, listen to old books – everything to get his mind out of the negative.

The research of thinking was paid in the initial round of the Phoenix open, especially after a delayed troik in the water, threatened to derail his day.

Clark saved Park after hitting his triple in the water of the 17th Par-4 hole and fired a godless 7-on 64 on Thursday to take the lead with one blow in the first round.

“You can’t necessarily control the result and what happens to your golf ball, but you can control your thoughts,” Clark said. “So it was a good reminder for me to come back, when I play the best, I look more half full than half empty.”

Clark was one of the players who filled it on a day of a perfect year after the rain turned the TPC Scottsdale into a Wet, wild messS

Clark was the best of the group, opening with a bird and added four straight, starting from # 8 at a victory on the day when 24 players fired 68 or better before the game was stopped by the darkness.

Lee Hodges had two eagles on his posterior nine-the front part-i added three straight birds starting from # 1 to shoot 65. He was tied with Taylor Moore, who fenced the third hole of PAR-5 to close 7- Under stretching in stretching in seven holes.

Justin Thomas had six birds and was among six players who shot 66. Jordan spy escaped from some difficult places to shoot 68 in his second tournament after the wrist operation off the season.

The highest-ranked Scottie Shoti Sheffler had a wild ride, escaping from a hopper on the # 10 lighthouse at 69 in his second start, as he broke his hand while making ravioli for a Christmas dinner.

Clark finished eighth in the FedEx Cup standings last year and tied to 15th place in Sentry. In the next two weeks, he did not do so well by dropping the abbreviation in La Quinta and tied to the 73rd as a managing champion at Pebble Beach last week.

Clark went to a great beginning, opening with a bird before rolling at four straight, starting from about 4 of the eighth. The US Open 2023 champion with two Puts for another bird of the 13th Par-5 and struck his third shot to join the PAR-5 15th range to reach 7 floor.

Clark was obviously disappointed after pulling his shot at the Tee, left in the water at the reached Par-4 17th, but struck a magnificent shot on the pitch to save par before closing with an easy norm at 18.

“Needless to say, this is a bird hole and hitting it in the water and in fact not having a bird appearance is a pity,” Clark said. “But to get away with a nominal was great – it was huge.”

Starting from the back nine, Thomas takes advantage of the benign conditions in the “morning wave”, overcoming the removal of the 12th Par-3 with consecutive birds of No. 14-15. He two Puts for Birdie on the third par-5 and roll in a 45-foot bird on the PAR-4 heel after having to hit his shot around a tree.

Thomas closed 3-on 32 on his back nine with a 15-foot bird of No. 9.

“I feel that staying patient is important here because you can make a lot of birds, but if you may become a little aggressive or take unnecessary risks, you can make the magicians quite quickly,” said Thomas. “I just drew my path and tried to take it when I could.”

Schaeffler opened with a weak, failed to take advantage of the third with a descending wind 3 and took another magic when he fired a bunker on the fifth PAR-4. Schaeffler never seems to stay down for a long time and starts one of the strongest roars of the first round when he fired a shotgun on a 104-yards of Eagle’s 104 yards to No. 10.

The two-time Phoenix Open champion made a double blow to the 12th Par-3 after hitting his triple in water down for a bird to the right of Par-4 17th and just missed another 18.
