Women’s soccer to battle Binghamton in America East quarterfinal – University of Vermont Athletics

BURLINGTON, Va. – No. 6 Vermont will travel to Vestal, N.Y., and face No. 3 Binghamton on Sunday (Nov. 3) afternoon in the 2024 America East quarterfinals. The Catamounts finished the regular season 8-5-4 overall and 3- 4-1 in conference play. Binghamton finished with a 7-5-4 overall record and a 4-2-2 record during America East play. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

ALL-CONFERENCE SELECTIONS

Vermont had six players named to the 2024 all-conference teams. Bailey Ayer and Maddie Cronin highlighted first team all-conference. Kate Bossert and Jill Brody were selected to the all-conference second team while Farah Yakub represented Vermont on the America East All-Rookie Team. Sidney Remington and Iyer also received selections to the America East All-Academic Team.

VERMONT PERSPECTIVE

  • Vermont’s overall winning percentage for 2024 was slightly better than last seasons, posting a .588 winning percentage this season, improving on their .583 winning percentage last year. The Catamounts finish with a 3-4-1 conference record for the second straight season.
  • Vermont was first in the league in goals (30), second in earned run average (1.76), first in shots (273), second in shots on goal (108) and tied for first in points (83).
  • The Catamounts as a team rank 45th in the nation in shots per game, scoring 16 shots per game.
  • Vermont has scored first in 12 of its 17 games this season, scoring 19 goals in the first half and 11 goals in the second half. UVM holds an 8-1-3 record on the season when it scored the first goal of the game. The Catamounts’ 30 goals this season ranks first in the America East and 90th in the entire NCAA.
  • Vermont is the only school in the America East to have five players ranked in the top 11 in assists. Emma Warren has three assists. Brody has three assists, Remington has four assists, Bossert has three assists and Iyer has four assists so far on the season.
  • Vermont has two of the top four scorers in the entire conference. Iyer is tied for first in the America East, 17th nationally in scoring, with 12 goals. Iyer is also tied for first in the league and 22nd in the nation in points, with 28 so far this season with 12 goals and four assists. Bossert is fourth in the America East in goals with six on the season so far. Bossert also ranks fifth in total points with 15 points so far this season.
  • This will be Vermont’s 11th appearance in the America East quarterfinals. The Catamounts are 3-4-3 in their previous 10 quarterfinal games. This will be UVM’s fourth appearance in the quarterfinals, as the No. 6 seed was 2-1-0 in the previous three.

BEARING THE CATS

  • Binghamton enters the playoffs with a 7-5-4 overall record and a 4-2-2 conference record. The Bearcats earned a postseason berth as the No. 3 seed after defeating UAlbany on Oct. 31, 4-0.
  • The Bearcats are currently riding a six game unbeaten streak, outscoring their opponents 17-8 in the process.
  • Binghamton was led by Hannah Mimas with seven goals, eight assists and 22 total points. The Bearcats also relied on freshman midfielder Anna Buckwalter and senior guard Mackenzie Ryder, who each had 13 total points.
  • The Catamounts are 10-14-0 all-time against Binghamton, with the last win coming from the 2018 season when the Catamounts defeated the Bearcats 1-0 at Virtue Field.
