CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M women’s soccer team takes on Lubbock Christian in a Rivalry on the Range matchup at the LCU Soccer Facility on Wednesday, October 23rd. Kickoff between the Lady Buffs (6-6, 3-4 LSC) and the Lady Chaps (6 -5-2, 4-3-1 LSC) is set for 5:00 p.m.

WT leads the all-time series against Lubbock Christian 3-2-1, with the streak beginning in 2013. Last season, the Lady Chaps entered Canyon and left with a 1-0 victory. In the 2023 meeting, LCU’s Lexi De La Cruz scored in the 14thth minute before both teams went goalless the rest of the way. The Lady Buffs are 0-1-1 on the road in the series and 1-2-1 in conference play since the Lady Chaps joined the Lone Star Conference in 2019.

West Texas A&M couldn’t handle the No. 11 ranked Dallas Baptist Patriots on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Buffs fell 6-0. DBU got on the scoreboard early, scoring in the fifth minute. The Patriots extended their lead to 11th minute when Anne Luthan scored. DBU continued to add to its lead when Taylor Tufts scored at the 25th minute and Sofia Shrock scored in the 35thth minute. After 45 minutes of play, DBU went into halftime with a 4-0 lead in scoring and a 10-2 advantage in shots. DBU broke through once more at 54th minute when a corner kick bounced around the box before a failed clearance went to Olmos outside the box. Olmos took a touch before slotting his shot into the goal. The Patriots continued to extend their lead after Vela connected with Tufts for a goal in the 64thth minute. With the game under three minutes to go, Maddison Stokes almost ended the shutout when the Amarillo, Texas native found enough space to make a shot. Stokes beat the keeper but her shot went just over the bar.
LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN SCOUT
The Lady Chaps (6-5-2, 4-3-1 LSC) host the Lady Buffs after a 3-2 win against Texas A&M International on Saturday. In LCU’s last game, the Lady Chaps took an early lead before a goal by Journey Curs in the 64thth minute turned out to be a winner. LCU was led by Avery Jennings with 13 points on five goals and three assists, while Ella Spiller also had 13 points on four goals and a team-leading five assists. A total of 11 different players have scored, with nine players recording assists. In goal, three different players saw time in goal, with Megan Mirabel getting the start against Texas A&M International. As a unit, the Lady Chaps have 46 saves and 15 goals allowed on 155 shots for a 1.15 goals-against average, .754 save percentage and four shutouts.
LSC PRE-SEASON POLL
Dallas Baptist is picked to win its fifth straight Lone Star Conference championship after winning the regular season and conference tournament last season. The Patriots totaled 587 points and collected all but one of a possible 42 first-place votes. St. Mary’s followed with 519 points with Angelo State (500), Texas Woman’s (456) and Midwestern State (420) rounding out the top five. Texas A&M International (348), St. Edward’s (1 fpv, 323), Lubbock Christian (278), Oklahoma Christian (234) and UT Tyler (216) round out the sixth through 10th spots, respectively. WT (200), UT Permian Basin (176), Eastern New Mexico (88) and Sul Ross State (65) round out the preseason rankings.
DBU’s Taylor Tufts and Parker Coe were named LSC Preseason Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, while Texas Woman Amanda Farris earned Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
