Scotsdale, Arizona – Thehe WM Phoenix Open begins on Saturday, February 1, and after last year’s rude spotThings will be different.
What to expect:
Preparation has been underway for months, which is customary, but after the chaos in 2024, it is thought more about organization and safety.
“You will see a strong presence of fire and police here, but you always see that,” said Scotsdale Captain Fire Dave Folio. “Always here to protect the community and fans who come and enjoy this event.”
He calls Open a “mini city in the city” and explains some of the changes you will see this year.
“We worked with Thunderbirds, public safety, state, local and federal governments to make some changes. It’s no surprise that some of the paths were narrow. Some of them were expanded, “said Captain Folio.
A third gate was also added.
“We have a gate at Princess, the main gate, and we add a gate south of the main entrance from Frank Lloyd Wright and Greenway Hayden Loop. This will give people a way to gain access to the playground and go right to holes 18, 17 and 16, “said Captain Foil.
He says the fire department will have teams of bicycles, strollers and walks that will patrol outdoors.
“The general topic this year is that it will be” better, not bigger, “said Captain Folio.
He says that after Open, organizers look at what happened and what can be improved every year.
“We take a subsequent action every year. We meet with all stakeholders, Thunderbirds, Pro AM, Scottsdale Fire, Scottsdale Police. We are always looking to make changes. What we decided this year was that we would make it a better experience, no bigger, “he said.
View of a big picture:
Some of these changes were made in the light of the Open 2024 weekend. The area was heavily affected by rain, resulting in muddy conditions and crowds of people rushing to hide.

There are commanding officers and a single command system working at this event for 10, 15 years. We have plans for evacuation, we will have a better warning system this year to alert people when the time has come, “he explained S
Captain Folio says the purpose of the department is to meet Open’s calls within one to two minutes.
More good news: Additional toilets have been added.
What’s next:
The event takes place from February 1 to 9, with the golf tournament beginning on February 6th.
