FREMONT – Sandra Wise was reappointed by the Sandusky County Democratic Party as a representative on the Sandusky County Board of Elections.
The meeting of the Central and Executive Committee of the Democratic Party was held Thursday evening at the USW Hall in Fremont.
“It was just overwhelming, the support I got and overwhelming how full the room was with the number of people,” Wise said. “They are anxious. We want to work on something positive, Democrats, and that’s what we’re working on and that’s what I’ll continue to work on. Positivity, not negativity. We do not look back, but look forward to better days. I am happy to serve all constituents.”
During the meeting, they discussed raising egg prices, public school education, health care and gun control.
“When I talked to my folks at the Democratic Central Committee and asked them for their vote, they were all very vocal in their passion for the Democratic Party and what we stand for,” Wise said. “Public school education was great. This was a really big, public education, about gun control? I’m little Sandra Wise, working for my position on the Board of Elections and they talk to me about these basic issues in life. It just affects every single one of us.”
The members of the Election Board have a 4-year term, with two from the Democratic Party and two from the Republican Party. The current chairman is still Republican Ben Decker. The Sandusky County Board of Elections annually rotates the chair, with a Democratic member expected to fill the position after the March 5 organizational meeting.
“We exchange duties. We have a wonderful board that we’re working with,” Wise said. “This is from the county. The state allows us to rebuild as we wish. That’s what we do in Sandusky County. We never leave mad.”
Republicans are expected to nominate a member soon, with Sandusky County GOP Chairman Justin Smith currently filling the seat. He was appointed in 2023 to fill the remainder of Peg Rettig’s appointment upon her death on September 20, 2023.
“It’s a very good board. We work very, very, well,” Wise said. “We have an excellent Board of Elections in Sandusky County, and that’s why I’m staying.”
The other member of the board is the democrat Thomas Juncker.
Members of the Central and Executive Committees were also appointed at this meeting.
