Green Bay, Wi (WTAQ-Wluk)-Wisconsin’s Justice Ministry is trying to do more to keep children safe in schools. They launched the second edition of the overall school safety frame on Monday at the Green Bay Area District school office.

The School Safety Service wants every student in Wisconsin to be able to focus on school work and be safe.

“We know that school safety is complicated. There is no one size that meets all approaches to ensure that our students, teachers and broader school communities are safe. What works in the school neighborhood in the Green Bay area can be different from what works in a different area, “said Wisconsin Prosecutor Josh Cowul.

This includes conducting safety ratings, creating plans and applying “Talk, Talk”. The plan also creates a management team that would intervene when a student can pose a threat, help destimulate mental health problems and apply resources to reduce trauma after crisis.

“We hope that this framework will continue to be a priceless guide to schools and I encourage school leaders in the whole country to use this resource while working to keep their schools safe,” Caul said.

Kaul said the frame was not inspired by the school’s shooting on December 16, 2024. This incident was used as a training experience. In public schools in the Green Bay, leaders say they use this to review their plan and make adjustments if necessary.

“Every day, we just continue to strengthen and remind our administrators and staff how important it is for school safety and how important they play this role in it,” said GBAPS Safety and Security Manager Chris Kolar.

Green Bay’s school resources employees are also working to ensure that safe practices are up -to -date.

“Many of the threats we explore are bad attempts at humor or expressions of anger or powerlessness, without a real tracking plan. However, we take each of these threats seriously, “said Green Bay Police Lieutenant Tom Danny.

The funding of the School Safety Service passes in September. They want $ 2.3 million from the country to continue their work.

This money would fund the school safety service for two additional years. Governor Evers is expected to launch his proposals next week.
