Winter temperatures are expected in Columbia and the state of South Carolina as the chance of snow continues to grow, according to the latest forecast.

Cold air will arrive Sunday night and last through the week, the National Weather Service said, with highs in the 30s and lows dipping into the teens. The wind chill will drop below 15 degrees overnight. It will be coldest from Tuesday to Thursday.

The NWS is becoming increasingly confident that most of South Carolina will see some snowfall. The chance for snow will continue to increase Tuesday into Wednesday, with one to three inches expected to accumulate.

A “high-impact” winter storm is also in the forecast, forecasters said Saturday, with its highest potential south of Interstate 20. The National Weather Service warned South Carolinians of frozen pipes and dangerous conditions for those without shelter. Officials also warned motorists to use caution.

Mid-state areas of the Midlands, Low Country and Pee Dee are likely to see the biggest impact from the forecasted weather next week.

The Upstate should expect less potential for snow.
