Winston-Salem police call for shooting at gas station and separate robberies nearby – WXLV

Around 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, Winston-Salem police were notified of a shooting at a gas station at 500 Akron Drive.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers met with the victim, Kathryn Harris, a gas station attendant.

According to the investigation, Harris saw the suspect, Alvis Viotis Hackney, shoplifting. Harris claimed she approached Hackney and fired at him from outside, hitting him. Police say Hackney then fled the scene.

Officers soon found Hackney with a non-life threatening injury. Hackney was charged with felony theft but chose not to press charges in the shooting.

At approximately 7:10 a.m., police were separately called to a suspected armed robbery on the 2700 block of University Parkway.

Responders soon learned that a suspect had walked up to the cash register to demand money before fleeing the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

The police reported that no one was injured in the incident, and the suspect remains at large.
