The city of Wimberly is recognized as a community of Bird City Texas for 2025, an unusual honor awarded by the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife in partnership with the Audubon Texas. The prestigious certificate celebrates Wimberly’s commitment to protect and improve bird habitats, participation in education for the protection and promotion of a sustainable environment for both wildlife and residents.

“Being called a community of Bird City Texas is an exceptional achievement for Wimberly. It reflects the dedication of our residents, businesses and the city to prioritize sustainability and joint existence with nature, “says Richard Shaver, director of Wimberley Parks and Recreation. “We are humble and proud to join this elite group of cities committed to protecting our birds of birds and their habitats.”

Bird City Texas is a certification program designed to recognize cities that are distinguished in the protection of birds and their habitats where people live, work and recreate. In order to achieve this recognition, communities must implement scientifically based community-oriented initiatives and actions. Since its inception in 2020, only 10 cities have won this designation, which makes Wimberly’s achievement even more significant.
