Wilmington wins a three -round Bocce tournament – New Castle News

Bocce’s above prize was staying in Lawrence County.

Wilmington’s youthful tall team won the second three counties tournament on Friday. The tournament, for the sixth, seventh and eighth -graders, hosted the Schenango Recreation Complex.

The Bocce combined teams consist of students with special and general education. The Piaa Sport is sanctioned through a special Pennsylvania Olympiad and plays indoors with soft, full of Bubba Bocce Balls gel on a 60-foot court made by PVC Pipe.

The Wilmington team won the best of three championships with 3-0 and 4-0 wins over Butler. Rachel Kenny Coach said it means to see the students a lot to gather as a team and win.

“They are like a big family,” Kenny said.

The members of the Schenango team organized and officialized the tournament. Shenengo Senior Chloe Andrews serves as a coach for the Junior High team.

“They have fun doing it,” said Jeff Ali, Bocce Shenango Varsity coach. “He is less strict than the rules of Varsit.”

The trophy of the tournament is described as the “Stanley Cup”, according to Ala, who said Boche’s sport is constantly growing in the region every year.

Ala added that there are more competitors in this year’s tournament and interest in Junior High will be transferred to fill more teams for Varsiti.

This year’s tournament included nine teams from the Counts Lawrence, Mercer and Butler – two from Mohaw and Grove City and one from Shenango, Wilmington, Butler, New Castle and Laurel.

Shenango, who won the introductory tournament last year, took third place, followed by the two Mohawk teams in fourth and fifth place, the two teams of Grove City on the sixth and seventh, Laurel in the eighth and new castle of the ninth.

The Shenango Varsity squad has just expanded this year to two teams.

“There are so many more teams,” Alala said.

Kenny said this was the first year when Wilmington expanded with a junior team.

“It’s great for the kids,” Kenny told the sport. “You don’t have to be super athletic to be successful.”
