Wilmington, NC (Wect)-Wilmington’s Family Service (WFD) celebrates the 30th anniversary of the regional response to the team-2 (RRT-2).
The team was formed in 1995 and was agreed through the state of North Carolina.
WFD says RRT-2 covers several counties, including New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, Duplin, Columbus, Onlow and Carter.
“The team responds to any release of dangerous materials, which includes chemical, biological, nuclear and radiological materials to identify, contain, rescue, restore and mitigate the danger,” the press said.
The RRT-2 consists of 30 Wilmington firefighters, trained and certified at the level of dangerous materials in North Carolina, level II (technician).
WFD says these firefighters respond to more than 100 calls in the Wilmington County/New Hanover County and 10-15 state missions.
The RRT-2 is equipped with the latest equipment for the response of dangerous materials, including:
- Remote air units for a remote zone
- Completely encapsulation suits for chemical reaction
- Highway and rail leaks restriction kits
- Real -time sampling equipment and material identification
- Meteorological station on the spot
- Hazmat’s tactical response robot
