On Saturday, the Scottsdale Scorpions faced the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League. In that game, the New York Mets had two of the eight prospects they sent to the AFL game. These creatures Jett Williams and Drew Gilbert.
Jett Williams had two hits in Saturday’s game. He went 2-for-4, with two singles, while scoring two runs. Williams now owns a .238 batting average and .802 OPS through 51 plate appearances in AFL action. However, he leads the team in strikeouts (16) while only walking eight.
Elsewhere, Drew Gilbert had a hit. He went 1-for-4 with a strikeout. Gilbert has been playing much better in the AFL recently; he’s now five over his last 14, raising his AFL average from .083 to .184 and his OPS from .404 to .759 over that stretch. Gilbert, encouragingly, has more walks than strikeouts and has flashed his power; four of his seven hits were extra points. It’s been a slow start to the AFL for Gilbert, but he’s turned it on recently.
Williams was Metmerized’s No. 1 prospect in the post-draft update, while Gilbert was the No. 3 prospect in MMO’s rankings. Williams and Gilbert, along with their six other Mets prospects playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions, will see their AFL schedule run through November 16.
