A new wildfire burned toward residential areas in Southeast Boise Wednesday afternoon.
The Leeds fire started at 2 p.m. southwest of the Diversion Dam on the Boise River, about a half-mile from East Plexi Court, according to a wildfire warning from nonprofit Watch Duty.
The fire remained at about 175 acres as of 5:45 p.m., according to the Bureau of Land Management.
The agency estimated the fire would be contained — with a line around much of its perimeter to stop it from spreading — by 8 p.m. The BLM also said the fire should be contained by noon Thursday, meaning it would be controlled to the extent that the firemen did not work longer on it.
“Crews will remain at the scene cleaning up and securing containment lines,” the agency said on social media.
The Leeds fire threatened the 174-lot Sunny Ridge subdivision between Lucky Peak and Interstate 84. A structure protection team was set up in the neighborhood, but there were no evacuation orders as of 4:50 p.m., according to Bureau of Land Management spokesman Chad Klein.
All roads remained open as of 4:50 p.m., according to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.
The agency said the cause of the Leeds fire was still under investigation and there was no estimate of when the fire might be brought under control.
The agency said personnel and equipment from the Bureau of Land Management, the Boise Fire Department, the U.S. Forest Service and the Eagle Fire Department assisted, including three bulldozers, two drivers and four fire engines.
