Wildcats launch the spring season in Mexico – ABLENE Christian University Athletics Athletics

Playa del Carmen, Mexico – an inertia created from a strong finale until the autumn season, has created high expectations for the ACU men’s golf team entering the spring championship season.

This season begins on Sunday at the Vaqueros Intercollegiate Golf Tournament against a field consisting of SMU, Utep, North Texas, UT-San Antonio, Lamar, Western Carolina, Wichita State, Northern Colorado, host the tournament UT-ARLINGton, Denver, Louisiana-Monroe, George Washington, East Michigan, Setton Hall, Cal Baptist and Central Michigan. The 54-holes tournament begins on Sunday at 8:30 am a rifle start and will be played on the PAR-72, 6.70-1yard Playa Paraiso Golf Club Course.

The game for Wildcats in the first spring tournament will be Trenton Johnson., JamGreg Hoyo, Thomas Bujsonand Colin LeonardS Jack Holings will play as an individual.

Wildcats finished second and third in two of their last three tournaments last fall, sending the team in the extra season and preparing for the spring season with a significant impulse.

“We enjoyed a great end to the fall as we played very well against some high quality teams,” the ACU chief trainer Tom Show He said. “This impetus of trust has moved in the winter and gave us the necessary thinking to continue this good game in the spring.

“We have high expectations for spring,” he said. “We will play in some tournaments that will test us, but all this is part of becoming a national competitive program that is looking for matches against the best teams in the country. We are excited about the challenge.”

In the Florida Atlantic Golf Invitational, a pair of freshmen, Leonard and Holings, led Wildcats to graduating from third place. Leonard finished in a three -way draw for third place, and Holings finished in ninth place. These two have a show – in their 11th season in ACU – excited this season and the future of the program.

“Both of our freshmen are excellent players,” Shaw said. “Jack and Colin have demonstrated that they can be strong associates this season, as can be seen from their top 10 ends in our last fall. These two young men will significantly affect our team over the next four years.”

ACU will play weeks in the back to open the season playing next week (February 10-11) at Bentwater Intercollegiate, hosting the University of Rice, Bentwater Country Club in Montgomery, Texas. Wildcats will play six spring tournaments before the Western Athletic Conference Championship tournament, April 25-27, at the Paparral Pins Golf Club in Peyson, Arizona.
