There were a lot of questions this week in Aggieland.
Now there’s a question of who will start at quarterback after Marcell Reed’s phenomenal second-half performance against LSU.
There are strong arguments for both players, but I’ll give my prediction on who will start and why.
Obviously, that doesn’t discount Reid’s effort against LSU.
It changed the momentum of the game and ultimately the score.
The Texas A&M coaches will use this play to light a fire under Connor Wiegman, and with it, he will have Reed breathing down his neck.
The offense can only get going with effective running from Le’Veon Moss and tough blocking from the offensive line.
South Carolina has been decent in stopping the run against top-tier SEC teams. The Gamecocks gave up 133 rushing yards against LSU, 104 rushing yards against Alabama and 53 rushing yards against Oklahoma.
The Gamecocks could affect Reid’s running ability, which could force more throws, forcing Wiegman to use more of his throwing ability.
Reid has the ability to throw, no question. This is a chance for Weigman to redeem himself against South Carolina, which will be a tough environment on the night.
Aggies don’t want to play with fire either. If Wiegman shows he’s not playing up to par, Reid will get his number, and you can bet the coaching staff won’t be as hesitant as last week.
