Thunderstorms rumbled through parts of the Treasure Valley Saturday afternoon, with rain and pea-sized hail falling to the ground.
Meteorologists weren’t expecting the lightning, thinking there would be heavier rain instead, Boise National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Wojcik said.
“The warming we got today, the sunshine … you need warmth for storms to develop,” Wojcik said.
The impact of the sun produced an isolated effect on the weather. The storms weren’t even happening in the mountains, just in an area from Boise to Meridian.
“It’s kind of like a broken line, which means there’s a storm here and then maybe a mile to the north there’s nothing,” Wojcik said.
The storms should leave the area by 3 p.m
“When it blows, go indoors,” Wojcik said.
