Columbia – South Carolina’s female basketball coach Dawn Staley is not known for changing its starting lineup. One or even four bad games does not mean that she wants to change anything.
On Wednesday night, however, Staley revealed on the radio show “Carolina” calls on that earlier this season she will change the starting five and take forward Sanya Fagin. Staley informs Fagin, who sent her later and asked for another chance.
“Sometimes you want players to answer this way,” Staley said. “You want her to want it. You want her to know that she will bet on herself, relies on her set of skills. You know, don’t let me change your point of view because of the decision you are making. We have a. We have a A close enough relationship to where I listen to, I will give her another chance and she did not let any of us.
Staley did not specify when the exchange took place.
Fegin, Senior, sat behind Alia Boston in 2021 and 2022, then Camila Cardoso last season. This season she moved to the starting lineup for # 2 Gamecocks (20-1, 8-0 Sec). Junior striker Ashlin Watkins and freshman Joyce Edwards go off the bench to submit to Fegin and Junior Chloe Kits. But Watkins tore his ACL on January 5, and Fegin’s role has increased, now an average of 18.4 minutes per game.
In six of the first eight games of the season, Fegin did not score more than six points. But in five of the six games of January 9, she scored at least eight points. It is now an average of 7.4 points and 4.6 struggles per game.
Its highest season is 14 points, against South Florida on December 15th.
