What is the status of the negotiations for St. George now that Baton Rouge has a new mayor? – Report on greater Baton Rouge

The negotiations between the city and the money and St. George regarding the intergovernmental agreement seems to be acquired by grip after months of stagnation discussions.

This is according to Andrew Murel, chairman of the St. George’s Transition District and Candidate for the City Council of St. George.

Murel tells Daily report This, while progress is slow, the arrival of Mayor Sid Edwards opened the door for a meaningful dialogue.

“We hit a brick wall where the previous administration absolutely did not want to make a deal,” he says. “We no longer have this obstacle. We have someone who is interested in all the parish involvement. “

Murel says that technically there are three agreements to be reached:

Although this omnibus agreement may take longer to smooth, Murel expects the first two of these agreements to be reached in a short order. He says in recent weeks St. George’s management has been communicating with the mayor’s office to work to achieve a deal, although he admits that Edwards has many on his plate right now.

“Mayor Edwards was extremely busy with the transition of power and reaches his speed, but there are conversations,” he says. “This administration will do it.”
