The new ordinance, which the Municipal Council will review the meeting on Tuesday, includes employment based on merit and the re -appointment of at least two positions related to DEI.

Scottsdale, Ariz.

According to the Council’s agenda for their meeting on Tuesday night, point 14 is a request for adoption of Ordinance No. 4662, which deals with the employment based on the merit and the termination of DEI programs.

The item was added to the agenda at the request of “four or more members of the municipal council,” the agenda said.

The ordinance will “ensure that city employees have been hired, evaluated and promoted” on the basis of merit, will stop the use of urban means for systematic programming of the DEI and reappoint at least two urban positions related to DEI.

The termination of urban funds will be applied to the DEI, DEI programming and trainings and “other initiatives that could violate ARS § 41-1494”, the agenda said.

The legislation states that the state, state agency or city, city, district or political unit of the state cannot use public money for “training, orientation or therapy that represent any form of guilt or judgment on the basis of race, ethnicity or gender S “

The only warning the legislation does is for sexual harassment training.

It is not stated which members of the council requested that the subject be added to the agenda. As part of the regular agenda, the members of the Municipal Council will take action on the issue by voting for adoption or not adopting the ordinance.

The meeting of the Municipal Council on Tuesday begins at 5:00 pm and takes place in the Kiva City Hall Forum.
