Topeka (KSNT) – The next generation of mail delivery vehicles this year is rolling in Kansas and can be spotted in a neighborhood near you.

The US Post Office (USPS) announced in October last year that it will modernize its fleet of vehicles for mail delivery with the arrival of the next -generation delivery vehicle (NGDV). The new trucks are highlighted as zero emissions and electric batteries, providing more environmentally friendly supplies throughout the country.

USPS Tara Jarrett told 27 News that the agency has deployed over 670 new delivery vehicles in Kansas. This includes eight of NGDV and 26 Ford electric e-transits only in the Topeka area.

USPS Louis Dejoy General Mail said these new electric vehicles will provide many benefits to the agency and its workers. He also said the addition of these new vehicles shows that “efforts to electrify and resilience can exist together”.

“These new vehicles are raising safety for our employees, improving our ability to deliver on time and modernize our operations,” Dejoy said. “Our team deserves the best equipment as they work to service 167 million addresses across the country. The introduction of these new vehicles is aligned with our operational strategy and financial health, creating us for the future of improved service across the country. “

Earlier, USPS announced its plans in December 2022 that it would acquire more than 100,000 new vehicles, along with at least 66,000 vehicles for battery delivery. This is part of the 10-year plan for the delivery of the Post Office for America.
