Western Virginia controls the game, gather Utah – field media

Amani Hansbury scored 17 points, and West Virginia closed strong to take a 72-61 home victory over Utah in Morgantown on Saturday.

Javon Small is 14 points and eight assists, Joseph Josuf added 14 points, and Jonathan Powell scored his 11 points in the second half to raise the climbers (15-8, 6-6 large 12).

Powell lit a play-calf 8-0 running with a stay under three minutes, hitting a 3-point dagger. He closed the outbreak with a free -throw for a 13 -point lead with 56 seconds.

Keanu Daues led UTES (13-10, 5-7) with 14 points and 11 bench fights, but Utah could not finish her return after popping up in the last minutes. It was the fourth loss of the team in six trips.

Jake Walin was the only other player of Utah in double figures with 10 points. UTES’s leading goalkeeper, Gabe Madson, was limited to seven points, and the team shot 41.1 percent in his first game in West Virginia.

Western Virginia, led by 14, when Powell contacted a 3-chain for the lead 53-39 with a remaining 12:38.

Utes cut into this advantage, pulling within five points after Welin drained 3-indicated with three minutes.

Utah missed four consecutive shots, made a turnover and did not score for 2 1/2 minutes during the late result of the mountain.

Western Virginia quickly scaled the start of Utah 6-0 with eight straight points, including the 3 back from Hansberry and Small.

The climbers took the half-time lead by 36-27, holding UTES without a result of the final 2:58 until they continued at their own mileage 7-0.

Western Virginia won two of three of its loss to three games.

Powell and Hansbury have downloaded seven fights for West Virginia.

The climbers fired 48.1 percent of the terrain, including 9 of 24 of the 3-point range. This helped to compensate for a rough night to shoot free throws, as they only made 13 of the 23 fake shots (56.5 percent).
