BLUEFIELD, WV (WCHS) — State officials announced two major road construction contracts in West Virginia on Monday.
A $58 million contract will connect the Mercer County Airport to Littlesburg via a 2.5-mile stretch of the King Coal Highway, according to a news release from West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice’s office.
The four-lane road runs nearly 100 miles through McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Wayne and Wyoming counties.
In addition, the governor announced that more than $77 million will be used for the Roaring Run Bridge along Corridor H, completing a section of the four-lane highway from Kerens to Parsons, West Virginia.
Corridor H runs from Weston to Interstate 81 in Virginia. State officials hope the project will reduce travel times and open up remote areas of Grant, Hardee and Tucker counties to economic development.
Construction is expected to begin in the spring.
