West Virginia has been working with Westlake 2026 Atlanta (Ga.) receiver Deion Thomas since January, and the program is on his list of places he wants to visit in the future.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Thomas received the scholarship offer when his coaches let him know the Mountaineers were officially in the mix.
“When I first heard the news, I was thrilled,” he said.
The Rivals.com three-star prospect has spoken with wide receivers coach Bilal Marshall and has been impressed with the way he’s handled his recruitment so far.
“I think Coach Marshall is a cool guy,” he said.
Marshall is trying to get Thomas to visit him on campus, but at this point there is no date when that will happen. This will be the next step if the Mountaineers want to move up the ladder.
At this point, the talented pass rusher plans to check out programs like Georgia and North Carolina State, while he’s already visited Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia Tech and South Carolina among other stops.
Thomas has been targeted solely as a wide receiver, and teams have been impressed with his combination of size and speed, as well as the way he has embraced being a leader on his team.
Thomas is in no rush to recruit yet, but is looking for a school that will allow him to develop into a better prospect with the potential to move to the next level.
“And it makes me a better player and there’s a brotherhood on the team,” he said.
