West Valley Boys Soccer PowerHouses Try Open – Daily Independent

Boys and girls football joined football and basketball for boys and girls with an open division for the 2024-25 season.

It’s similar to the basketball format. The top 32 teams from the 4A-6A conferences qualified for the first round. Then the last eight teams remain in the open division, while the remaining 24 return to their respective conferences.

Four teams from West Valley Preps play in the first round of The Open tonight at 6:00 pm, and three host games:

No. 27 Tucson Desrt View (9-3) in No. 6 Sunrise Mountain (10-1)
Where: 21200 N. 83rd Ave., Peoria.

After making their second final 5A in three years in 2024 and lost to the perennial Nemesis Ironwood, Mustangs are on a mission this season.

Sunrise Mountain won the Bulldog tournament at Goldwater, after which they lost their opening season at the Arizona College Prep. Since then, Mustangs have only been lost once and have been tied once during a Christmas tournament.

The focus of the 10 -game season completed on February 4 in Glendale when Sunrise Mountain defeated Ironwood for the first time in school history. Senior striker Kale Howel scored both goals in a 2-0 victory.

“It’s great to achieve this victory. Many of these guys have been part of the team all the time. It means a lot to me,” said coach Eric Andersen.

Fourteen adults led the mustangs to their best regular season. Howel, goalkeeper Mason Tumu and defender Luke Kurles are the captains of the team.

“Kale and Mason started as freshmen in the championship (2022). They both broke the records at our school. Kale broke the record for a goal and Mason broke the record for rescue,” Andersen said. “This is a really good group of boys. They love each other. It’s a pretty special team”

There is only one result of a desert view that has some connection to the Sunrise Mountain. Jaguars lost a regular match for the 2-1 season in Mountain Ridge, nine days after the mountain lions lost to Mustangs 2-1 in the Bulldog tournament.

No. 21 Phoenix Sierra Linda (10-1-1) in No. 12 Shadow Ridge (10-1-1)
Where: 10909 N. Perryville Road, surprise

Shadow Ridge is another team from the senior who has built this season and playoffs after winning the first playoff game in 6A in school history last season.

The Gitters tied #2 Phoenix Desert Vista and defeated O’Connor and Liberty. Now is the time to return the playoffs, for which the team longed after a second round 4-0 loss in San Louis last year.

“We had to travel a long way and we really never got off the bus. We had bus legs and we just played terribly, “Engle said. “They know what they can do if they are given the opportunity to get there again. I think they will be much better. They were humble about it and were honest about it. “

Sierra Linda is also a little mysterious team. Bulldogs lost to №5 Washington, a team that did not lose 5A opponents.

Shadow Ridge receives a home game in front of the crowd that has grown over the years with them.

“No one really knew about the football team. We only won three games. We are now fighting for the national championship, “said senior goalkeeper Eli Anderson.

The protective losses of the 5A champion are all for teams ranked in the best six state -owned – Vista, Washington and Sunrise Mountain Desert. Every time the eagles bounced quickly.

Earlier this season, Brian Romero became a leading goal scorer in the history of this seven-time national championship program, with his 70th goal.

Ironwood Ridge was unbeaten to 8-2 loss to the traditional Tucson-Hare Power Salpointe Catholic to end the regular season.

No. 23 Liberty (8-4) Of # 10 Chandler Arizona College Prep (10-2)

Where: 4477 S. Gilbert Road, Chandler

It was a season of review of Liberty after the program was fighting to 6A in 2018. For the past two years, the lions have rushed to the main 6A equality such as #16 and #15 seeds respectively.

This Liberty team finished #10 in 6A and played several top teams in the Tough Conference, including #1 Pinnacle and Shadow Ridge.

Arizona PREP College was ranked as a top team in 5A in the biggest part of the year until it dropped after late losses on Campo Verde and Desert Mountain.
