“This is my father. He was a green beret in the US Army and was also a parachutist in the Air Force, “said Jessica Searsi McCra.

McTra’s father is civil rights activist Edward Sears. He teaches biology at the Horse High School in Port Allen. After the diet, he taught Port Allen at high school. The education that his daughter told him was the most important thing for him.

“It was a lot of pressure because he was such an educated person and a smart person. He did not turn us on, but informed us that we could achieve everything we want, “McPa said.

McTra is the youngest of the five children of Sears. She said she did not see her father in action.

McCra recalled, “I remember making picket plates for him when I was a little girl. He wanted to print them for him and I don’t remember what they were writing about at that time, it was a long time ago, but I remember making these signs. “

A relic of time is a Picket note at the National Food Store to make them hire more black workers. This is just one of the many pieces of Searcy’s legacy. Another was to carry a voting right and an equal pay for all of Port Allen.

“Can you imagine meeting your character you don’t even know is your character at the time?” Selton Berry asked.

This is a question that Berry can answer. He crushes an exhibit at the West Baton Rouge Museum, remembering Edward Sears. Berry was one of his last students.

“It followed me through my life at college, then to the military and life is a complete circle, because he brought me back here to honor the man who laid the way,” Berry said.

The exhibit will honor Searcy with clippings, photos and letters, his family is stored. There are also drawings from students when Searcy was declared teacher of the year. Edward Searsi died in 2010. The lessons of a 55-year career in education are still taught to this day.

Berry explained: “I call it the teaching tree. He still lives. There are many faculty in East Baton Rouge and West Baton Rouge who have worked with G -N -Searsi who are students of G -N -Searsi and are still working now. “

“I am touching that so many people love my father and I feel very honor that they would think to keep his memory alive and flowing. This is a real treat, “McCra said.

Edward Searsi is Trailblazer, called Generational Giant. The moments of his heritage will be used to teach the next generation.

The West Baton Rouge Museum will have a lecture for lunch on February 28, 2025 with the participation of Warren Ledzhun. He was a former student of Searsi, who continued to become his head at Port Allen High School.
