Webb Co. manages funds for Project 1848 – KGNS

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – Webb County officials continue to keep a close eye on the 1848 project.

Commissioners recently talked about managing funds to start Phase 3 of this project, which consists of building a barn and a new exhibit hall.

However, commissioners say the cost of the second phase, which consists of building two showrooms and a large lasso area, needs to be reviewed.

District 3 County Commissioner John Gallo noted, “We found we needed a little bit bigger venue because there are some events that need more space and we also need smaller venues. We decided to ask the architects to do some conceptual drawings for it. We’re calling this Phase 3. Phase 2 is, as you heard today, we should have some numbers by next week, and I was just being cautious in saying to postpone Phase 3. We want to do it, but I want to do the numbers for Phase 2 to we can start this year.”

The project is expected to be fully completed by 2027.
