Watch: Scientists from Virginia Tech Study Dance Models of Bees – WSLS 10

Blacksburg, VA. – Do you know that honey bees do not just buzz randomly? In fact, they dance to communicate.

A new study by Virginia Tech shows that these “dancing on foot” is more than a way to show bee. They are actually crucial to finding food.

Researchers have found that bees with unique dance styles are actually improving their chances of successful food. It turns out that bees that “exceed” their goals give their fellow forages a better shot when finding food.

“So, we just understand the basic science about it. And it may be that this is as good as they have to do it to achieve what they are trying to achieve, “says Maggie Kvilon, an entomologist at Virginia Tech. “Or maybe there is a real benefit of misunderstanding that we have not yet found.”

When bees exceed their target, they could usually return it and find it.

The experiment will allow scientists to better understand the behavior of bees and its importance for their survival
