Watch: Fans Sing “Take Me Home, Country Roads” during Super Bowl Lix – Sports Illustrated

In the middle of the second quarter of the Super Bowl Lix, “Take Me Home, Country Roads” echoed throughout the Super Dom Caesar as “The moment of unity” and fans can be seen to swing to the official state song of West Virginia.

The University of West Virginia quickly accepted the song after the release of John Denver’s hit edition in April 1971.

Western Virginia’s pride, the University of West Virginia’s marching group, has performed “Take Me Home, Country Roads” before every 1972 football match.

The football coach of the University of Western Virginia Rich Rich Rodriguez began a new tradition in 2001, encouraging fans to sing the song after the victories in 2001 and became the biggest tradition in the College of Football.

WVU athletic programs have accepted the tradition at home or on the road, as athletes and fans celebrate victories.
