PHOENIX (AZ Family) — New body camera video shows the moment a former NFL player was arrested for extreme swelling in Scottsdale last month.
On Sept. 30, a Scottsdale police official said a concerned witness called 911 to report that former Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy was driving between lanes.
“I was just literally in my own lane. Gotta go to me right here,” Lacey says, seeming to erase his words.
He then tells the officer that he flew in from Green Bay, Wisconsin, earlier that day. “Any alcohol tonight?” the officer asks. “I mean, I drank on the flight and that’s it, I guess,” he replies.
The officer then asks Lacey what time he drank and what time his plane landed, to which he cannot answer. “Just one drink?” says the officer. “Yes,” he says. What did you have?” she asks. “Oh, tequila,” he replies.
The former NFL player claims it was just one shot of tequila.
The two officers repeatedly ask Lacey to get out of the vehicle, but he hesitates. “Wait, what? No, I didn’t do anything wrong driving. I had drinks at the airport, but I live right there,” he said. “I don’t have any worries, I just have to go there,” he says as he points to a nearby apartment complex.
The officer asks Lacey about any recent injuries. “I played football. I have a lot of head injuries,” he replied.
He tells the officer he is a retired Green Bay Packers football player and was in Wisconsin for the weekend.
The officer pulls out a dragger and tells Lacey to blow into it. “I drank all weekend,” he said. “I’m asking about today,” said the officer. “During the weekend, alcohol leaves your body quickly.” “Not technically, but I will,” he claims.
Lacy tells the officer he has a prior DUI.
“What do you think you are?” the policeman asks, referring to the dragster. “I don’t know. I think I’m trying to go…” he said. “You told me you only got one chance, and I know you didn’t get one,” she says. “I drank on the flight,” he said.
“So you’re on .325,” the officer says as he takes Lacy into custody. “You are under arrest for DUI.”
He was then loaded into the back of a Scottsdale patrol car. “They’re very difficult to sit in,” Lacey says, referring to the handcuffs. “It’s not meant to be comfortable,” the officer replies. “Exactly, which is never why I come back here until you do,” he said.
Lacy was arrested on the following charges and booked into the Scottsdale City Jail.
- DUI – Minor Impaired
- DUI – BAC of .08 or higher
- Outstanding DUI – BAC .15 or higher
- Outstanding DUI – BAC .20 or more
- Alcohol – have an open container in the vehicle
Lacy played for the Packers from 2013 to 2017 and rushed for over 1,000 yards in his first two seasons with the team. In 2017, Lacy signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks before retiring from the league.
