SEATTLE — Drew Azzopardi sought out and hugged a teammate on defense, offering affirmation after the game with his massive right arm wrapped around Lance Holtzclaw’s neck. Then it was Justin Harrington’s turn, the senior towering over the sophomore, yelling in his face, slapping his palm and punching him in the chest.
Before the young passer stood up for a radio interview, one of his teammates admonished him: “You’re talking rubbish!”
Holtzclaw committed to Jimmy Lake, signed Kalen DeBoer and is among 40 scholarship players returning from last year’s team to play for Jedd Fisch. He has appeared in every game this season, albeit often sparingly, mostly specializing as a pass rusher.
Fisch ruled that Holtzclaw played just one snap in Saturday’s game against USC.
Sometimes one is enough.
