Washington nationals could spend money in this extra -season if they wanted.
This was theorized that they could use this winter when some of their high -price contracts came out of books to recharge this list with their star young stars who were already on the team.
The names like Alex Bragman, Pete Alonso, Christian Walker, even Juan Soto were thrown as possible additions to the team, while the likes of Max Fried, Corbin Burns and Blake Snell were suggested to anchor the rotation.
But nothing like this happened.
This was not too surprising, especially because it was always the more likely option.
It may be disappointing to see the lack of expense again, but the organization is committed to seeing this recovery. And with many of their star prospects that joined the first wave of young pieces in the show, which they initially received when they began to destroy things, blocking the way to playing these players, it was not what the front office wanted.
The opening of the check book could eventually come to nationals, but owner Mark Lerner has made it clear that the plan is not yet.
“When Mike calls me and says,” We really have to think about it, “we’ll talk about it about it next winter. At the moment he doesn’t think – and I agree with him: there is no point in getting a superstar and paying hundreds of millions of dollars to win two or three more games, “he told Barry Srluga of The Washington Post.
So more patience will be needed than the fan base.
Perhaps no one has foreseen the 20th anniversary season, which takes place this year, will focus on players’ development, especially after winning the World Series in 2019.
But this is the reality of the situation.
The good news is that Lerner has spent money in the past.
Washington was at the top of salaries from 2013-2021, and although in recent years they have reduced their salary, it does not mean that they will not return at the beginning of the league at some point in the future when they receive more clarity on which of Young stars can really build around.
“We will soon have it where we want it to be. And we have a great team that will be here soon,” Lerner added.
The situation surrounding the potential sale of the team was also placed in bed by Lerner and his family, which should suppress any of the concerns that those in charge of this franchise do not commit to putting the best as possible on the field.
There is hope that nationals can become what Baltimore Orioli is at the moment after making their resumption of tears by rotating to the top of their division, led by the harvest of the young stars who have them in their place that is Created for success ahead.
Time will show if this is the case, but although Washington’s brass has made it clear that they are not ready to spend at the moment, it does not mean that they will never run to land funds for a free price.
