Two Virginia police officers were fatally shot during a stopping of traffic on Friday night, according to a message from their police station.
Virginia Beach employees Cameron Girwin and Christopher Rees were “shot dead in the duty” during a late night’s stopping, Chef Paul Nejagut told reporters on Saturday afternoon.
Girwin and Rees stopped a car for leaked plates at the end of Friday. Driver and suspect killer John McCoy III began arguing with them. McCoy then got out of the car and fatally shot each officers twice with a gun, Naidgiga said.
The emergency crews reacted shortly thereafter, administering life -saving measures before taking employees to nearby hospitals. Both officers died overnight, surrounded by family and friends.

Police overnight began a search of a suspect, which is resentment that it “quietly moved away” from the scene. The employees soon found McCoy inside the drum behind the nearby apartment complex. He died of a “self -inflicted” firearms, according to Neudigate.
“In the end, in the end, the determination and cause of death will relate to the medical specialist, but I can say that at that moment our preliminary investigation … This is a self -inflicted firearm wound,” Nujididzh said. “At no time, one of our officers fired.”
When the police department first announced the shooting early in Saturday, they assured community members that there was no “active threat”.
“We can’t share a lot of information at this time, as this is still a very active investigation,” the department said.
“We ask for your patience and understanding as we work to collect the pieces of this tragic event, make notifications and grieve for the loss of two of ours,” the department added.

Representative Jen Kigigans, whose area includes Virginia Beach, said that the “thoughts and prayers” of her office were with the officers’ families and their community.
“Our hearts are heavy today, as we are grieving for the loss of two heroic police officers of Virginia Beach, who were tragically killed in the execution of the duty last night,” Kijigs writes at X.
The State Senator Bill Detef, who represents areas of Virginia Beach, made a similar statement.
“I’m so horribly saddened to get this news this morning,” he wrote in social media. “Please keep this officer, their family, friends and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers when they begin to navigate such a deep loss.”

The Norfolk Sheriff’s service also shared its condolences.
“Heart news outside Virginia Beach, where local media reports that one officer was killed and another seriously wounded last night,” writes X.’s office to the officers’ families, our brothers and sisters to @VBPD and all are all are affected by this tragic situation.
Meanwhile, community members have shared their reactions on social media.
“Terrible horrible news,” a Facebook user wrote. “Prayers come out to the officers’ families.”
“So pointless and tragic, I hope you find the one responsible,” another said. “Prayers for all who are affected by such a tragedy.”
