Virginia Beach man crashes through Chesapeake building during chase, state police say – newspaper

CHESAPEAKE – A Virginia Beach man lost control of a vehicle Friday morning during a police pursuit and crashed through a building, state police said in a news release.

Around 8:45 a.m., a Virginia State Trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Red Acura TL for speeding on Interstate 464, Sgt. Michelle Anaya said in a news release.

After the vehicle failed to pull over, a pursuit was initiated, Anaya said. During the pursuit, state police discovered the car’s registration was assigned to another vehicle.

The vehicle, driven by Austin Jarrett Edwards, 21, allegedly exited at 464 Freeman Avenue, then hit a dead end. Edwards lost control of the Acura due to ice on the roadway, police said, and crashed the car into a nearby building and through its exterior wall.

Edwards suffered minor injuries, police said, and he was taken to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center to be evaluated before going to the city jail.

Two workers in the building said they suffered minor injuries and were treated and released.

Edwards, of Alfriends Trail in Virginia Beach, faces multiple vehicle charges, including reckless driving and criminal mischief.
