Vinicius Junior offers support to Barcelona players after alleged racist abuse – Irvine Times

Videos on social media appeared to show Lamin Yamal being jeered by some of the home fans as he celebrated his goal in the 77th minute by pointing to his name on the back of his shirt.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice and Rafinha completed the scoring as the visitors cruised to a victory that moves them six points clear of their rivals at the top of La Liga.

Real Madrid did not specify which players were subject to what they called “deplorable and despicable insults” while they launched an investigation into the matter, but Vinicius later mentioned Yamal, Rafinha and Ansu Fati in his own statement on social media.

“It’s a shame what happened yesterday at the Bernabeu with racist abuse,” Vinicius wrote to X.

“There is no place for these criminals in our society. All my support to Lamine, Ansu and Raphinha.

“I know Madrid and the police will do everything to identify and punish those responsible!!”

In June this year, Vinicius said he was a “torturer of racists” after three Valencia fans were jailed for eight months for abusing him during a La Liga match at the Mestalla stadium in Valencia on 21 May 2023.

Real Madrid’s statement on Saturday’s incident read: “Real Madrid strongly condemns any type of behavior involving racism, xenophobia or violence in football and sport and deeply regrets the insults that several fans uttered last night in one of the corners of the stadium.

“Real Madrid has launched an investigation to find and identify the perpetrators of these horrific and despicable offenses so that appropriate disciplinary and legal action can be taken.”
