Down 2-0 Thursday night, the Rappahannock County volleyball team proved it would not go down without a fight against visiting Madison County in a classic Bull Run District season finale clash played at the Rapp Nation gym.
Both teams will play in the BRD Championship next week. On Monday night, No. 3 Madison (11-3 BRD, 17-3 overall) will host Stonewall Jackson, while No. 4 Rapp (7-7, 11-12) will host Luray. Both games are at 6 p.m
The district semifinals will be played on Tuesday night and the championship on Thursday night.
Rapp will also host a VHSL Class 1B regional quarterfinal game on Nov. 4, and Madison will likely host a VHSL Class 2B regional game this week.
The Panthers led from start to finish in the third set, building a 10-point lead behind the serving of junior Chloe Jenkins before settling for a 25-19 score.
However, the Mountaineers regrouped and won the game with a 25-18 advantage in the fourth set.
Madison seniors Michelle Thompson and Maddie Dean led the Mountaineers with 17 digs each, and Thompson added 17 kills while Dean gave Madison 42 assists.
Junior Alivia Lewis had four blocks and senior Riley Gordon had three aces.
Jenkins led the Panthers with 12 kills and three aces, while senior Brooke Atkins collected 10 kills and six digs.
Sophomore Kameryn Roeder also contributed eight digs.
Before the game, Rappahannock County fans honored seniors Atkins and Shelby Clem.
