Vault’s composition leads WVU vs. Iowa State – Blue Gold Sports

Morgantown, W.VA. (February 9, 2025) – Although the highest for the VAULT season, the gymnastics team at the University of West Virginia dropped a double match against the Big 12 Conference Foe Iowa State, 195.375-194.175, at the WVU Colosseum in Morgantown on Sunday afternoon.

The climbers collected results from 48.9 on VAULT, 47.925 of uneven bars, 48.425 on the beam balance and 48.925 in the floor exercises. It should be noted that the general team of VAULT celebrated the highest season, as WVU beat its previous season best in three tenths.

WVU started strong on Vault after fighting for the event in previous meetings. The squad was led by the career 9.85 by freshman Carly Dicello, who corresponds to the highest result of the mountaineers of the event this season. The classmate Sofia Rice was just behind Dicello with 9.8, who was followed by a couple of 9,775 by freshmen Taylor Tuohi and Emerson Smith. Junior Carly Nelson added the best season 9.7 to complete the score.

At the bars, the fifth year senior Trinity Macy again led the squad with 9.725. Senior Anna Lee and the sophomore Jaden McDonel gathered a coincidence 9.7, who coincided with the best season for McDoenel. Senior Brooke Alban added 9.625 before WVU unfortunately forced to count the fall to his final result. Sophomore Julia Brown and freshman Kalin Skal were called to debut in their career at the event, winning 9.175 and 8.65 respectively.

West Virginia struck all six beam combinations for the second direct match, led by 9.775 by Brown. Dicello added 9.7, followed by a trio of 9.65 by Lee and sophomores Kayle Adams and Amber Law to round the rotation.

Keeping the floor match, four gymnasts won 9.8 or higher, led by Lee 9.85. Smith gathered his second rights 9.825 at the event, while Alban and freshman Riley Manes each won 9.8. The freshman Taylor Tuohi scored 9.65 to complete the mountaineers’ meeting.

In the latest events, Dicello finished first in Vault, followed by Rice in third place. Brown tied to third place on the beam while Lee put in second place, and Smith tied to third place on the floor.

West Virginia now heads back on the road when he makes the hike to Provo, Utah, for a large 12 conference for a BYU conference on Friday, February 14th. The competition in the center of Marriott has split for 21:00 ET.
