Vaughn is facing more criticism competing at the age of 40 – Sioux City Journal

So why did Lindsay Vaughn stand up so many second assumptions in Europe for his return at the age of 40 this season after spending simultaneously from sports as Hirscher?

Before Vaughn returned in December, two -time Olympic champion Michaela Dorfmeister suggested “he has to see a psychologist,” adding to Austrian television, “Does he want to commit self?”

Austrian Grand Franz Klamer said “she’s gone completely,” and four -time champion in the general World Cup Pimin Tsurbgen said VON “has not recognized the meaning and purpose of his other life in recent years.”

“I do not think I really deserved the disrespectful comments to the extent they were given. This is a valid question,” Vaughn said on Monday when he arrived at the World Cup, citing his reconstructed right knee, which is now partly Titan.

“But there were many questions that were related to me as a person and my psychological condition, and what life was out of skiing. And it was completely inappropriate and disrespectful and I didn’t deserve it,” Vaughn added. “And honestly, no one deserved it. But no one asked Marcel these questions. No one asked Marcel if his life had been completed outside the ski racing or if he had to see a psychologist. This is only aimed at me. And this is nice (confused) up.

While Hirscher specializes in the less dangerous disciplines of slalom and giant slalom, Vaughn competes down and super-G, where the speed of top 80 miles / h (130 km / h).

But many men competed in the descent after the age of 40. In January 2023, 42-year-old Johan Clarei finished second in the famous Hahnenkam Downhill in Kitzbuehehel, Austria-making the record for the oldest podium finishes.

Vaughn showed that he could still be competitive when he finished sixth and fourth in descent and super-G in St. Anton, Austria last month. She still rediscovers her speed and has had a few small falls during her return, but now she also has more time to regain her time by entering worlds to another Austrian resort-in Saalbach-Hintertlemm.

As for the answer to her return home to the US, Vaughn said she was “incredible”.

“Everyone really supports. Honestly, I only had some criticism in Europe,” Vaughn said.

“Many women my age are really, really happy to do what I do. It means a lot to them,” Vaughn added. “I think it also means something to women, that we still can still mean it is over.”

In addition to its two individual events from Super-G and Downhill, Vonn also wants to combine forces with Mikaela Shiffrin the new team combined event next week.

The women’s event, which will be held on February 11, includes one member of the squad that competes in descent and the other in slalom – with twice, added together to determine the final results.

Chiphin and Vaughn are the most bunny female competitors in the history of the World Cup with 99 wins for cipher and 82 for VON. Vaughn is the leader of all time in the 43 World Cup victories, and Schiffin holds the sign in slalom with 62 two records among men and women.

“I think it would probably be one of the biggest things in the ski racing that has 181 wins on the World Cup of a team,” Vaughn said. “I don’t see how this would not be incredible. I don’t know how it was physical, I didn’t talk to her because I just came back. So I don’t know if she even competed in the combined but if she had a chance to compete with her, I would like to be absolutely.

Shifrin returned to the chain last week when she was ranked 10th in the World Cup slalom in Courchevel, France. It was her first race in two months after the crash and suffered a deep stab wound on her side.

If the cipher is not ready for the combination, Vaughn suggested that he could partner with Paula Moltzan. Both Vaughn and Moltzan grew up the ski of Buck Hill in Minnesota.

“We are from the same small town,” Vaughn said. “It would be really cool to compete with her. But I would enjoy one of my teammates to compete with.”

The championships open with a team parallel event on Tuesday, in which neither the VON nor the cipher will compete.
