Vancouver Canucks forward Connor Garland breaks silence on superstar Elias Peterson – Canucks Daily

With all the criticism leveled at superstar forward Elias Pettersson for his less-than-stellar start to the season, Vancouver Canucks forward Connor Garland has broken his silence on the EP40 issues.

Connor Garland has been the Canucks best and most consistent forward so far this season and has completely outgrown the third line and is now getting the opportunity to play in the top 6.

With the way Garland plays the game, being an undersized player, he has become a tremendous leader for the Vancouver Canucks and as head coach Rick Tocchet puts it, “the voice of reason for the team.”

Connor Garland comments on superstar Elias Peterson

Not surprisingly, fans and the media were on Peterson’s back as he signed a huge contract that didn’t live up to him this season. It also doesn’t help that players playing in the Vancouver market are under intense scrutiny. Conor Garland stepped up to help Elias Pettersson in his struggles.

“The only thing I said to Petey was, ‘In two weeks, this will all go away and we’ll talk about how well you’re playing. And then you just have to stay even keel on that side. That’s how it is in this market. Just play.”

He went on to talk about the difficulties of playing for Vancouver, but he talked about it in a positive way that you want to play for a city that he cares about, and he wants Elias Pettersson to understand that it’s a privilege to play for this team, not weight.

“Why don’t you want to play here?” wing
Connor Garland asked seriously. “The tough (market) makes it look like it’s not fun, it’s a really fun place to play. I think the reward is high, the risk is high. If you’re bad, you hear about it. If you’re good, you’re never as bad as they say. You know, you’re a big team.
People are for or against you. It’s polarizing. It’s fun to be a part of.
