The prisoner from the death of South Carolina has chosen to die as fired a squad that will be the first time this method has been used in America since 2010.
Brad Sigmon, 67, will be executed on March 7th. He had three options for his performance: a deadly injection, an electric chair or a detachment. On Friday, he became the first person in South Carolina to choose the shooting option.
The last time someone was executed by a US shooting was in Utah in 2010. Only three people were killed in this way since 1976.
During the execution, Sigmon will be tied to a chair in the camera of death. They will put a hood over his head and put a target over his heart. Three volunteers will shoot at it through a small opening of about 4.6 meters.
Sigmon’s lawyers recently tried to delay his execution. They wanted to investigate the previous execution in South Carolina, where prisoner Marion Bauman was killed on January 31. Moreover, they wanted to know if Bauman had received two doses of the deadly injection drug Pentobarbital and wanted to see his autopsy report. The courts said no to the delay and it is unclear whether Sigmon’s lawyers still received the autopsy report.

Through his lawyer, Sigmon explained why he chose the shooting squad instead of the other options. His lawyer Gerald Bo King shared this quote: “But the alternative is just as monstrous. If he chose a deadly injection, he risked the prolonged death suffered by the three of the men South Carolina had executed in September – three men who knew and cared – who remained alive, attached to Gurney for more than twenty minutes. ”
King also explained that Sigmon had chosen the squad because South Carolina would not share details of how they were deadly injections: “He does not want to apply this pain to the family, witnesses or the execution team. But given the unnecessary and undoubted secret of South Carolina, Brad chooses as best as possible. ”
Sigmon was found guilty of murder in 2001. He killed his ex -girlfriend’s parents at their home in Greenville County, defeating them with a baseball bat, passing between separate rooms to attack them. After the killings, he abducted his ex -girlfriend in shooting. She managed to escape from his car, and although he fired at it as she escaped, he missed.
