North Las Vegas, Nev. – A police officer in North Las Vegas was shot dead and killed on Tuesday. The person who shot the officer was also killed when the officer fired back, although he was shot several times, police said.

“With heavy hearts, we are grieving for the passage of one of the best in North Las Vegas,” said the head of the police station in North Las Vegas Jacqueline Gravt. “Police officers choose this line of work because they want to protect and serve the community, knowing the risks and challenges that come with the badge. Our thoughts and prayers come out to the officer’s family, friends and his brotherhood in blue. “

According to a police report in North Las Vegas, employees responded shortly before 2:15 pm Tuesday to a signal for a man aimed at another person in the 4700 block of High Creek Drive, near the Lone Mountain Road and Camino Al Norte.

When officers arrived, he “ignored commands” and fled, police said. An employee located on the man who was armed with a gun and ordered him to show his hands, the news said.

Officer returned fire, although he was shot several times

None of their names was provided on Tuesday.

North Las Vegas police said the identity of the employees involved in the shooting would be released after 72 hours.

Near the shooting site, a resident of the Tony Cooper neighborhood said she had heard several rifles and then police sirens.

“I heard the shots and there were so many of them,” Cooper said. Later, Cooper said, she learned from a neighbor who called 911 that someone had thrown rocks and smeared weapons on the street.

“All our neighbors are truly upset about it,” Cooper said. “I don’t want to see that someone has been taken down the street. Something must be done for people – people who do not live here – enter this neighborhood and are violent. “

Employees gather in hospital

Meanwhile, uniformed police officers gathered in front of the main public entrance of UMC on Tuesday afternoon and evening and could be seen hugging each other.

It was the first firing of the police station in North Las Vegas since 2025.
