Wilmington, NC (WWAY) – The University of North Carolina Wilmington received a financial shot in the hand from two of its graduates.

Dr. Yusri Sayed and his wife Linda are committed to a $ 25 million gift to support health initiatives and teachers’ recruitment and university detention.

The announcement was made during a meeting of the UNCW Board of Trustees on Friday.

Sayed’s gift is the largest philanthropic commitment in the history of the university. The commitment will allocate $ 20 million in five years for the development of medical education, clinical care, studies and health programs of UNCW. $ 5 million has been set for future teachers’ recruitment programs, and part of the funding is used to support scholarships for persons passing to a teaching career.

“Our gift is an investment in future teachers and healthcare professionals who will serve their communities,” says Dr. Sayed. “We want to enable students with knowledge and skills to help others lead a productive and performing life. Linda and I believe in the mission and vision of this great university and we are pleased to contribute in a way that will allow UNCW to continue to grow in service in our region and country. “
