Ukrainians can again lead their children to join them in the UK after the government has canceled changes to visa rules.

Charity organizations said that this left families torn, with some desperate parents resorting to illegal routes to bring their children to the UK.

They welcomed the message as a “huge relief” for parents separated from their children, but warned that this would not help those forced by other family members such as siblings or parents.

More than 190,000 people have come to the UK under the home scheme for Ukraine since it was launched in March 2022, after the Russian invasion.

However, since last February, only British or Irish citizens or those who have the right to live in the UK have been able to act as sponsors who provide people to live somewhere.

This meant that Ukrainians living in the UK without permanent residence could no longer sponsor family members to join them in the UK.

At the same time, the scheme for the Ukraine family, which allowed Ukrainians to join family members who have already had a permanent residence in the UK, was also closed.

The government has now announced a parent or legal guardian who is in the United Kingdom on any of the visa schemes for Ukrainians, can apply for sponsoring his child under the home scheme for Ukraine.

Dora-Livia Vicol, CEO of the Center for Labor Rights, a charity supporting migrants, said: “This will come as a huge relief for those parents who have separated from their children, and will finally be able to be able to lead to the United Kingdom in Safe Safety. “

She added: “However, this action does not help those who have been forced among other family members, including siblings, parents or partners.

“We know that there are many Ukrainians in the UK who have left behind adults, sick or relatives with disabilities with the belief that they could bring them later. They are facing a brutal choice: Leave the UK safety to be Care for them in Ukraine, or to remain safe, leaving their close risk.

The charity says it has heard from hundreds of Ukrainians separated by family members and are trying to bring them to the United Kingdom.

Settled, another charity that supports Ukrainians applying for visas, said some families resorted to bringing their children to join them on illegal routes instead of leaving them in danger.

Yuliia Ismail, an adviser on the charity immigration, said: “We are asking for the interior office to act quickly to resolve exceptional applications from children stuck in the Ukrainian conflict areas, some of which have been in the limbs for almost a year.”
