Uber Freight expands reach and services in Mexico with new location
Uber Freight wants a bigger slice of the booming cross-border Mexican freight pie.
The company recently opened a new office in the Mexican border city of Nuevo Laredo and expanded its workforce in the country. Uber Freight recently named Jesus Ojeda, who led customs solutions as senior vice president at Transplace prior to its acquisition by Uber Freight, as executive vice president of Mexico operations.
Last year, the company achieved 77% growth in US-Mexico cross-border business, handling more than 2,000 daily shipments and processing more than 25,000 monthly customs entries.
Ojeda sees the U.S.-Mexico freight market expanding even further in the future due to nearshoring — companies moving their manufacturing and production to Mexico to be closer to the U.S.
“Nearshoring, it’s booming now in Mexico and in the U.S. and places like Laredo are hotspots for nearshoring,” Ojeda told FreightWaves in an interview. “We anticipate organic growth with investments in Mexico. We have been able to attract new clients who are starting investments in Mexico and help them grow their company.
Also our current customers and legacy customers that we’ve had for years – they’re also expanding into Mexico, setting up new plants, setting up new production lines, improving their productivity and making more goods.”
