Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard caught Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving’s interview in which he was asked if he would consider coaching after he retires, and the eight-time All-Star point guard responded with humor to the idea.
Late last month, during a Mavericks practice before the 2024-25 season opener, Irving was candid about his post-retirement plans. The 2016 NBA champion admitted that his lack of punctuality could prevent him from becoming a coach, noting that he prefers a looser and less tedious schedule.
“Yeah, I don’t know if I’m going to coach at this level, man. I’m more of a consulting type. For example, I set my own hours,” Irving said. “If you know my personality, you know I’m not trying to force myself to do anything, man. So if you’re telling me I have to show up at 9 in the morning, I’m like, “Maybe 9:08 or something.”
Damian Lillard shared the clip of Irving to his Instagram story, agreeing with the Mavericks star with the added caption. “Dude [redacted]Kyrie Irving,” Lillard said, followed by a series of laughing emojis.
Many NBA point guards have successfully transitioned into coaching after retirement, including Dallas coach Jason Kidd, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr and former Brooklyn Nets coach Steve Nash.
Damian Lillard posted a cryptic message after his 5th straight loss
Damian Lillard and the Milwaukee Bucks are off to a disappointing start to the 2024-25 NBA season. After winning their first game against the Philadelphia 76ers, their next games saw them on the losing end, which is surprising considering Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo are healthy and playing.
Amid the team’s struggles, Lillard reposted a cryptic text on his Instagram story that read, “You need to know how tough you are without congratulation, celebration or validation.” He captioned the story, “This is the divider.”
Despite their early season struggles, it looks like Damian Lillard is still trying to stay motivated.
Lillard nearly finished with a double-double tonight, scoring 41 points and adding nine assists. Antetokounmpo himself nearly finished the game with a triple-double, finishing with 34 points, 16 rebounds and 9 assists.
The Bucks face the Cavaliers in a rematch on Monday, and the dynamic duo of Dame and Giannis will have a chance to redeem themselves; their hope this time is that the outcome will be in their favor.
