Orange County, Flag. -This weekend is over two years old as 9-year-old Major was killed in a deadly firing at Pine Hills. Now her family turns their grief into action, leading a walk against violence with a gun in her honor.
The event comes just days after the family joined the case against the sheriff of Orange County, claiming that MPs failed to investigate the suspects before the shooting.
T’yonna was one of three people who died on February 22, 2023, when a weapon also took the life of television journalist Dylan Lions and 38-year-old Natchae Augustine. As two-year-old Mark approaches, her family calls for more awareness and action against violence with a gun.
“It’s hard to believe that she’s been gone for two years,” says Phyllis Turner, a relative of T’yonna.

The family walk has attracted community members, defenders and local leaders, all in solidarity to honor the victims of weapons violence.
“This is to continue to make awareness of weapons violence and how too many lives are lost pointless not only in this community but also in our city,” Turner added. “Something has to be done.”
Angel Brantley, another family member, expressed his gratitude for the support.
“It means a lot to us to see all these people show up because it means they are standing for something, it means that they want this violence with a gun,” Brantley said.
In addition to his intercession, T’yonna’s family joined a case against the sheriff of Orange County, accusing MPs of negligence in processing events leading to firing. The court claims that the lack of a proper investigation contributed to the tragedy.
“Nothing for us will never be the same. My sons, my nephews and nephews, they miss it very much, ”Brantley said. “And the community, we have to start gathering, because it will not stop if they do not overlap more of us.”
As the fight for justice continues, T’yonna’s family hopes their efforts will lead to a lasting change and prevent future tragedies.
