BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department are searching for two teenagers wanted in connection with a police pursuit and alleged vehicle theft.
According to police, the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. on Friday, October 25.
Officers were dispatched to the 12000 block of Doverwood Drive, off Scotland Avenue, for a “suspicious incident.”
After an anonymous tip, officers learned that there were people in the area who were “staging possible stolen vehicles.” When officers arrived, an anonymous complainant pointed out one of the vehicles, identified as a white Camry, was driving and leaving the area. The officers gave chase. The vehicle crashed in a fire, according to BRPD.
Three people, dressed in school uniforms, got out of the car and ran away, police confirmed. One of the juvenile suspects was later taken into custody. After a perimeter was established, a BRPD K9 responded when the other two teenagers were last seen jumping the fence on the Scotlandville High School campus.
The school was placed on lockdown for safety while officers searched the area for suspects. In the course of the investigation, two minors were detained for questioning; however, it was determined that there was insufficient evidence to charge the subjects at that time.
According to law enforcement, the school was initially locked down for safety because the alleged suspects were possibly involved in several other burglaries and car thefts. In one related incident, the suspects carjacked the victim’s vehicle and as they drove away from the scene, the suspect fired one shot into the air as the victim gave chase. Further investigation into the case is pending, with two suspects at large.
The juvenile arrested was processed and charged with the following:
47:536 Changed registration number
14:76.26 Theft of a motor vehicle
14:55 Aggravated criminal damage to property
14:108.1 Aggravated flight from an officer
40:966 Simple possession of marijuana
The investigation continues. Anyone with additional information about the case is asked to contact BRPD or Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP (7867).
