Two new windshields installed in Fremont County – Canon City Daily Record

In Fremont County, two new windshields are installed, offering a unique space for those who grieve to connect with lost loved ones.

The installations are located in the Holt Funeral House, located at 806 Macon Ave. in Cañon City and Holt Family Floneric Funeral Home, located at 120 N. Pikes Peak Ave. in Florence. They are in addition to the wind phone installed at St. Thomas Hospital more in November.

Initially inspired by the Japanese tradition, wind phones provide a quiet, private place where people can “call” their loved ones, expressing thoughts and emotions in a symbolic way. These additions aim to bring comfort and healing to those who deal with loss.

“We hope that these wind phones serve as a gentle shelter for those in the mourning, offering space to talk from the heart and find a sense of peace,” said Kim Huffington.

The members of the community contributing to this project are Judy Hildebrand, Cheryl Gould, Elizabeth Gamach, Beth Holt-Madone and Debbie Lake.

Both windshields are available to the public during the funeral home hours. Community members are encouraged to visit and experience this meaningful way of processing grief.
