G -Ja Gabard turned to former intelligence leaders and said that too often intelligence provided to politicians was incorrect or politicized, leading to wars, failures of foreign policy and weapons of espionage.
“The bottom line is that this must be finished. President Trump’s re -election is a clear mandate for the US people to break this cycle of failure and weapons and politicization of the intelligence community, “said G -Gabard at the beginning of his hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee.
G -Ja Gabard promised to be objective and “leave his personal views on the door.” She noted her military service and said she would bring the same sense of debt and responsibility to the Director of National Intelligence Director.
Mrs. Gabard and her nomination were criticized for her previous comments on Russia and a visit in 2017 with the already urgent leader in Syria.
G -Gaja Gabard, a former Hawaii Democratic Congress, is a lieutenant colonel in the National Guard, which has twice settled in the Middle East and runs for president in 2020.
However, it has no official intelligence experience and has never managed a government agency or department.
However, G -Ja Gabard’s comments have caused the biggest challenge to confirm it.
G -Ja Gabard repeatedly sounds Russian propaganda used to justify the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine and criticized Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski as a corrupt autocrat.
She has been accused of distributing Russian misinformation by Republican politicians and has even won praise in Russian state media.
The visit in 2017 with former Syrian President Bashar Assad is another dispute. Recently, Assad was removed as the leader of his country after a brutal civil war, in which he was accused of using chemical weapons.
After her visit, Ga Gabard confronted her that she legitimized a dictator and then more questions when she said she was skeptical that he used chemical weapons.
As a politician, D -Ja Gabard sponsors the legislation that would cancel key observation programs known as Section 702, which allows authorities to collect the communication of suspect terrorists abroad.
G -Ja Gabard said that the program could violate the rights of Americans whose communications were inadvertent, but national security staff say the program saved life.
She now says she supports the program by noting new protective measures designed to protect the confidentiality of Americans.
As politicians from both sides expressed fears about the nomination of G -Gabard, the Republicans are increasingly coming to support it.
Given the Sub -Senate Republican borders, it will need almost all GOP senators to vote yes to win confirmation.
